Why I write

Writing is how I find out what I actually think. That is most of the reason I do it.

I do not write because I have finished thinking. I write to find out what I think.

Ideas feel clear in my head right up until I try to put them in a sentence, and then the gaps show. Writing is the cheapest way I know to test whether an idea holds. If I cannot say it plainly, I do not understand it yet. So the page is less a place to publish conclusions than a place to earn them.

There is a second reason, quieter. The work I do is mostly invisible while it happens: a lot of building alone, in different time zones, with results that take months to show. Writing is how I leave a trail. It lets the right people find me by recognizing how I think, not by catching an ad. Some of the best things in my working life started because someone read a thing I wrote and said, that is exactly how I see it too.

So I write in my own voice, plainly, without dressing it up. Short where I can be, honest where it counts. If it is useful to one person and true to me, it did its job.
