Building with a second brain

How a plain-text second brain plus an AI thinking partner changed how I decide and build.

I keep a second brain. Not an app with a logo; a folder of plain text files that hold what I know, what I have decided, and what I am working on. On top of that sits an AI that can read all of it and think with me.

The point is not note-taking. The point is continuity. A solo founder's biggest leak is re-deciding things they already decided, re-explaining context they already explained, forgetting the reason behind a choice they made three months ago. Write it down once, in a place the machine can read, and that leak closes. Every session starts with the full picture instead of a blank slate.

It splits cleanly into two layers. One is the strategist: goals, notes, the whole map, where the job is to decide what to do and to poke holes in my own plans. The other is the worker: a single project in focus, where the job is to ship. The same body of knowledge feeds both.

The rule I hold onto is that the human keeps the judgment. The brain remembers and drafts and researches; I decide. Automate the recall and the grunt work, never the taste. Done that way, the system does not replace thinking. It clears the space for it.
